Historically, as one of the magnificent cities of the Near and Middle East, Nakhchivan played a significant role in the preservation of the centuries-old achievements of Islamic culture. The director of the museum also spoke about the courage and fidelity of the sons of our country who sacrificed their lives for our freedom and independence and said that national leader Heydar Aliyev for the first time assured political-legal assessment to this tragedy.
In the open lesson, the museum's guide Gulara Babayeva made a speech on "January 20 tragedy in the works of writers and poets".
She noted that to inflict reprisals against people who struggle for the national liberty and struggle for the territorial integrity of the country, killing and wounding of hundreds of innocent people as a result of mass terror, has once again demonstrated the offender character of the Armenians to the whole world. She underlined that this tragedy was widely described in Azerbaijani literature. Our writers and poets write poems and writings on this subject in order to convey these troubles to the people, the horrors of that night, to future generations. The prominent poets H.R.Uluturk, B.Vahabzade, Mammad Araz, who revived the ideas of national independence and freedom in contemporary Azerbaijani poetry, praised the martyrdom as the son of the homeland and the ideal of the warrior fighting for the homeland. People's poet B.Vahabzade immediately raised objections when the 20 January events happened as a direct participant of the popular movement for freedom, reflecting heroism of the people in fiction.
Continuing the lesson, pupils of the Nakhchivan secondary school №10 made a literary recitation of poems dedicated to January 20 tragedy.
Finally, the participants of the open lesson got acquainted with the exhibition titled “January 20 in our literature”.
