On January 19, Babek Region Culture and Tourism Department organized a conference dedicated to the memory of January 20 martyrs.
The event started with one minute of silence to honor the memory of January 20 martyrs.
First, the head of Babek Region Culture and Tourism Department Jeyhun Farajov opened the conference and mentioned that Azerbaijani people always remember the memory of heroic sons of this land. There are such incidents in the life of our people that we will never forget, these days are more remembered from time to time and become the symbol of freedom. The aim of this conference organized in the eve January 20 tragedy is to be got acquainted with the historical heroism of our people. On that night, Azerbaijan people demonstrated their heroism, the loyalty to Homeland, land, the spirit of struggle for freedom to the whole world. Just because of this determination, will, our people obtained the sacred desire and gained national liberty.
Then, the head of Nehram village Memorial Museum of Jalil Mammadguluzadeh, the honored culture worker Akif Hajiyev mentioned that January 20 is a day written with martyrs’ blood in Azerbaijan history. At the same time it is a honorable heroism chronicle of Azerbaijan people for freedom.
The methodologist of Babek Region Culture House, the honored artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan Vidadi Rajabli made a speech on “January 20- the way of Azerbaijan people to the independence” and stated that after January 20, comprehensive changes took place in the social consciousness of our people- our people started national liberty movement. “In a word, the blood of January 20 martyrs did not go in vain”. He stated that although January 20 bloodshed was terrible but it could not break the struggle spirit for national liberty of Azerbaijan people. Those who died in that terrible night wrote a brilliant page in the history of Azerbaijan, led to the national freedom and independence of the people.
The conference continued with the speech of the head of Babek Region History-Ethnography Museum Arzu Gasimov on “January 20- the trial night of the people who are ready to sacrifice themselves for freedom”. He emphasized that the people of Azerbaijan did not lose themselves in these difficult days, and they stood upright. Half million people participated in the funeral rites of the martyrs. The brave Azerbaijani people flowed to the Highland Park, taking the martyrs' coffin on their shoulders without fear of the "peace army" troops. The soldiers of the army were seemed feeble in front of the crowded people.
It was stated that understanding the history, culture and national identity of the people of Azerbaijan, the people of Azerbaijan struggled for independence.
At the end, the artistic master of Babek Settlement Culture House Mansura Humbatova made a speech on “January 20 is a day of heroism and pride of our people” and mentioned that the tragedy of January 20 demonstrates the heroism and pride of the people who fight for their freedom and independence. The speaker said that the people of Azerbaijan should always remember the bloody day with pride as the day of the national awakening.
At the end of the conference, the film "The way leading to January 20" was demonstrated in order to raise the feeling of patriotism and citizenship in people.
