Gamigaya, chronicle of our ancient history was the home of our ancestors throughout centuries. There is a lake on the name of the ancient Oghuz-Turkic nation at the foothill of the magnificent mountains, which adds beauty to this monument, reflecting its rich past; this is the mysterious-magic Goygol. The history of this lake, which we come across at “Kitabi Dade Gorgud”, is a symbol of bravery and courage, belongs to B.C.

We look forward to see the four-seasoned, fascinated Goygol which admires people. This lake is located in the foothills of Gamigaya, between the mountain range surrounding Nurgut village. Emerald-colored, glorious Goygol distinguishes Nurgut village from other villages.

We have a long distance. That is why we come to Goygol as soon as the Sun rises. The sun is still fresh in the mountains. The dawn spreads to the top of the mountains. The landscape that I encountered on the road - the beautiful snowy mountains  in the hot summer season,  healing underground mineral springs, various trees greeting the visitors of the village, the fascination of the Tillak Forest, which is rich in rare plants, babbles of Ayrichay and Saggarsu rivers which inspire the human soul. This miraculous dwelling created by God with delight and delicacy is as if has collected all the natural beauty as a magical force.

I know the past of these roads well. For a moment, I remembered the conditions of   these roads some years ago. Before it was very difficult to travel on these ways ... It was almost the biggest problem for the villagers. With the support of state, reconstruction of the Bilav-Goygol highway which is strategically important has eliminated the main problem of the villagers. Now, while traveling on these roads, it is impossible not to be surprised the power of people who built these ways through the high mountains.

As you approach Nurgut, the fresh smell of flowers, the babbles of the Saggarsu river, and bird’s graceful songs mesmerize you. At the entrance of the village, the cold spring meets the passers-by. One side covers the marvelous nature beauty, and pleasant city appearance on the other side… Probably, you are surprised… Yes, a new school building, a health center, village and service centers, a mosque, passing cars on the roads like built newly. This pleasing appearance, beautiful landscape, enables to forget all your fatigue and pain.

Our car travels through the Goygol plateaus. We see the hamlets of people from lowland regions in the distance. Hundreds of honeycombs around the hamlets…

We are already in Goygol. We are not alone here. Some families have already set their samovars and drink tea while watching the quiet waves of the lake. .. It seems that the people of this beautiful nature are very friendly and hospitable as well. Resident of Khurs village, Eldar Hagverdiyev, invites us to sit at the tea table   opened on the greenery. Those who gathered around the table are his family and his close friend from Baku. Eldar Hagverdiyev gives us interesting information about the lake: “This lake, which is 3065 meters above sea level, is the highest altitude lake in the autonomous republic. The depth of the lake is 5 meters and in some places up to 7 meters. The source of the lake’s water is the melting snow in the mountain tops, the rainfall in all seasons of the year, and the pure springs around it. Although these places have severe climatic conditions, the surroundings of the lake have an unusual nature. On one side of the lake which is called “Four seasons” among the local people, there is snow but on the other side there are flowers. As you see, although it is August now, there is snow on the slopes of the mountains, and the four sides of the lake are full of colorful flowers”.

We said good-bye to him and his family hoping to see them again. Now we are on the road to the Saggarsu River, on the left branch of Gamigaya. When you touch the water of the river which takes its source from Goygol and runs into river Gilanchay, works like ice-cold water. The delicate sound of the river delivers peace to the soul of a person as a pleasant song. The flow of clouds reflected on the lake, the sound of grass rustling in the gentle breeze and the babble of the Saggarsu river leads people to another world.

There is unanimity between Goygol located between Gamigaya and foothills of Agdagh which admire people with its magnificent beauty, and the holiness of Noah. A small island located in the center of the lake reminds us a hidden island where Noah landed, at the foothill of the mountain built of natural fortification. The secrets of Goygol are as real as the legend of Noah. The most realistic reflection of this reality is the proud and fearless Azerbaijani soldier, like the eagles soaring on the lake. The soldier, who sacrifices himself for his Motherland at the peak of Gamigaya, defends his native land in the foothills of these mountainous valleys.  I thought that it would be wrong to come here and not go to visit the soldiers who defend our native land in cold trenches. With this idea, I moved towards the trench which seems as an impenetrable castle even at the distance. I greeted officer Nurlan Hamidov, who served here. We had a conversation with Nurlan, from Tovuz region. The young commander, who proudly and confidently said that the victory over the enemy was not too far away, serious attention is paid to the welfare of soldiers, food and military training. According to him, as soldiers learn the secrets of military technology in regular exercises, they are convinced   that they will win this unfair war with great victory.

… Goygol, the witness of the glorious history of our country, preserving thousands of secrets. You will always be the decoration of this land, theme of a lot of stories with your magic nature, fascination, brave and bold mountains, springs like tears streaming through the mountains, stubborn rivers.
