The successe of Babek Region Folk Theatre is growing

Necessary conditions are established for the activity of folk theatres in the autonomous republic. The folk theatres operating in some regions attract attention with their performances.

Recently, we were in Babek region. As I wrote articles about culture, I wanted to visit the cultural centers here, and I was interested in the work of the folk theater. The actor of the theater, Honored artist   of the Republic of Azerbaijan Vidadi Rajabli informed us about the history of the theatre located in the building of the Culture House of Babek Region:

The roots of the theater art in Azerbaijan are related to the life, social life, festive and wedding traditions, as well as outlook of people. The spectacle elements in the ceremony, ritual and games played an important role in the creation of an independent folk theater. The repertoire of the folk theater consisted of small-scale performances with ethical content.  Folk theaters played an important role in the formation of Azerbaijani professional theater. The history of the theater art that dates back to ancient times begins with Mirza Fatali Akhundov’s “Vizier of Lankaran Khanate” and “Haji Gara” staged in March and April 1873 in Baku.

The director of the theater, Yusif Aliyev said that Babek region was historically interested in various creative spheres. He first talked about the drama circle of Culture House of Babek Region:

- For the first time, members of the circle performed Jalil Mammadguluzade’s  “Kamancha” play in 2006. In 2008, the collective performed a piece from “White hawk of Khurramis” by Anvar Mammadkhanli. In 2009, they appeared on the stage with the work of the Brazilian writer G.Figeyredo “Ezop”  and the performance of the collective was met with sympathy. The same year, the drama circle was given the status of “Folk Theater”. This increased the responsibility of the members of the collective. The collective presented Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh’s play “Traces are made on the road” in 2010, Maharram Alizadeh’s “Sheikh Rahmatullah” comedy in 2011 and Jafar Jabbarli’s “Faded flowers” play in 2012.

In subsequent years, the activity of the folk theater can be regarded as satisfactory too. The theatre performed “Traces are made on the road”, “Second voice”, “Faded flowers”, “Mother”, “Love sign”, “Crane”, We came across the hail after the rain, "I can not forget" and other performances.

We also learned that the collective was awarded the first prize at the autonomous republican festival of Folk Theaters in 2015.

The collective, that has interesting performances in its repertoire, often visits separate settlements in the region, schools, and shows interesting performances.
