Today, the Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Vasif Talibov signed a Decree on the establishment of Nakhchivan Salt Museum.
The Decree states:
“Nakhchivan’s connection with prophet Noah has drawn attention from ancient times, Greek scholar Claudia Ptolemy reminded Nakhchivan for the first time in the second century of our era as the residence of prophet Noah, a prominent Arab scientist, geographer of the sixteenth century, Al-Sharif, gave detailed information about the remains of the Noah’s grave and even the ship’s remains in Nakhchivan.
The Russian researcher Konstantin Nikitin, in his large-scale article titled “Nakhchivan district and Nakhchivan city” given in “Collection of materials for the description of Caucasian country and tribes” published in Tbilisi in 1882, shows that Prophet Noah was the first employee in the salt mines and taught people to extract salt. Studies show that, the basis of salt mining has been established since the Eneolithic era in this area. This had a strong impact on the formation of the 5,000-year-old Nakhchivan city culture.
Taking into account the historical importance of Nakhchivan Duzdagh, archeological researches were carried out in this area, ceramic products belonging to the Eneolithic and Bronze Age periods, along with stone tools of different periods were discovered. As a continuation of the researches, at the international scientific symposiums and conferences titled “Nakhchivan in international sources”, “Prophet Noah: world storm and Nakhchivan”, “Nakhchivan: as the first settlement and urban development”, “Nakhchivan: the initial city and Duzdagh”, Duzdagh culture in Nakhchivan was once again confirmed by scientific reasons, and scientific materials on Nakhchivan Duzdagh were prepared and books were published with participation of foreign experts.
Following the paragraph 22 of Part II of Article 5 of the Constitution of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, taking into account the important role of Nakhchivan salt in the history, to systematize the results of scientific researches and to preserve the material and cultural samples obtained during scientific researches, I decree:
1. Establish Nakhchivan Salt Museum
2. The Office of the Supreme Majlis of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic together with the Ministry of Culture and Tourism will resolve matters arising from this Decree”.
