On October 17, at Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Library named after M.S.Ordubadi, the conference titled “Our independence is eternal” dedicated to the “State Independence Day of the Republic of Azerbaijan” was held.
Director of the library, PhD on history Aytakin Gahramanova opened the event. Head of the Information-resource department Gulasar Mabudova made a lecture entitled “Our independence is eternal”. Hall director Vasila Jafarova made a speech entitled “Heydar Aliyev personality in the history of independence”, and programmer Aytan Mammadova on the topic entitled “18 October is Day of State Independence of Azerbaijan”. Lectures and speeches stated that the history has repeatedly proved that it is more difficult preserving independence than gaining it. You need to be ready for trials, and you should be able to stand every difficulty. Fortunately Azerbaijan had the opportunity to gain independence twice in a century and to create its sovereign state. Unfortunately, the first opportunity was lost due to external interference, internal conflicts and lack of international support. The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, founded in 1918, lived only 23 months. The second historic opportunity came about 70 years later. The collapse of the Soviet empire allowed the Azerbaijani people to restore their national independence. On October 18, 1991, the Supreme Soviet of the Republic of Azerbaijan adopted a “Constitutional Act on the State Independence of Azerbaijan”. With this important historical document, our people enjoyed their freedom.
It was noted that the people, who were approaching freedom, were trying to gain their eternal desire and were ready for everything to accelerate the historic moment. These people were hardened in the challenge movement and saw the January massacre. The empire’s tanks were also unable to stop the path to freedom. Azerbaijan, with numerous martyrs and victims in its independence struggle, gradually went to independence. On the autumn of 1991, after a long debate, the “Constitutional Act on the State Independence of Azerbaijan” was adopted. Thus, the beginning of the new era in the history of Azerbaijan began. After returning to power in 1993 for the second time, national leader Heydar Aliyev made Azerbaijan’s independence everlasting and irreversible.
At the end of the event, the slide was demonstrated and an exhibition called “Our independence is eternal” was viewed.
