On January 26, the 20th anniversary of the Nakhchivan State Carpet Museum was marked,  presentation of the book "Nakhchivan carpet-weaving: tradition and modernity" published jointly authored by   the vice-president of ANAS, the academician Isa Habibbayli and the chairman of  the Board of “Azərxalça” Open Joint-Stock Company professor Vidadi Muradov was held.

The chairman of Nakhchivan Branch of ANAS, the academician Ismayil Hajiyev opened the event and said that Nakhchivan is distinguished for its ancient history and rich culture and carpet weaving traditions that have made valuable contributions to this culture. The region's favorable climate and important trade routes have played an important role in the development of many fields of art, including carpet weaving. At the 20th anniversary of the Nakhchivan State Carpet Museum, the presentation of the book "Nakhchivan carpet-weaving: tradition and modernity" published jointly authored by  the vice-president of ANAS, the academician Isa Habibbayli and the chairman of the Board of “Azərxalça” Open Joint-Stock Company professor Vidadi Muradov, is of great importance.

The head of Department for Humanitarian Policy Issues and Public Organizations of the Supreme Majlis Office Rahman Mammadov delivered a speech and mentioned that important measures have been carried out in the field of  preserving, studying and promoting the material and cultural samples,  the museum network has been expanded in the autonomous republic. One of the museums created during the years of independence is the Nakhchivan State Carpet Museum. Thanks to the attention and care of the Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of  Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, the Nakhchivan State Carpet Museum, established in 1998, was provided with a new building in 2010. In accordance with the Decree of the Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of  Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic dated February 4, 2015 “On the regulation of the activities of museums in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic”, the Nakhchivan State Carpet Museum is considered an autonomous republican importance  museum, and the salaries of museum workers have been increased.

It was noted that the website of the  museum was put into operation in 2013 in three languages. It has enabled virtual tour of the museum all over the world, visitors to learn about exposition exhibits, as well as learn about our past. Enrichment of the exposition of the museum was also maintained. As a result of the work done in this direction, all the carpets exhibited at the exposition of the museum belong to Nakhchivan carpet-weaving school. A number of organizational work has been done to study the Nakhchivan carpet weaving school in the autonomous republic, carpet weaving courses at vocational schools, "sewing, knitting and carpet weaving" circles in Nakhchivan Girls High School have been opened, carpet weaving is organized in the folk art workshop of “Nakhchivan Business Center” Limited Liability Company. Students of Nakhchivan State University and Nakhchivan Teachers Institute studying fine art speciality are taught the traditions of Nakhchivan carpet-weaving school. In the cities and districts of the autonomous republic, carpet weaving work is carried out under the motto "Protect the tradition, weave a carpet". At the same time, to study the Nakhchivan carpet-weaving school, the production of documentary films and new editions are in the focus of attention. Over the past period, the publication of the book "Nakhchivan carpet-weavers",  "Nakhchivan Group of Azerbaijani Carpets"  journal by  "Azərxalça" Open Joint-Stock Company, "Nakhchivan carpets " documentary film are the valuable publications and information sources in studying techniques of Nakhchivan carpets, delivery of Nakhchivan carpet weaving school to future generations. “The book "Nakhchivan carpet-weaving: tradition and modernity, which we are presenting today, is a continuation of the work done in this direction”.

Rahman Mammadov thanked the vice-president of ANAS, the academician Isa Habibbayli and the chairman of  the Board of “Azərxalça” Open Joint-Stock Company professor Vidadi Muradov for the preparation and publication of the book "Nakhchivan Carpets: tradition and modernity", which contributes to the study and promotion of Nakhchivan carpet-weaving school,  congratulated the participants of the event and the museum staff on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the establishment of the Nakhchivan State Carpet Museum.

The minister of culture and tourism of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Natavan Gadimova said that the Nakhchivan State Carpet Museum is one of the first museums established in the country during the years of independence. The number of exhibits of the museum which began operating with 359 exhibits, is more than 3400 and over 300 of them are exhibiting in the exposition. The Nakhchivan State Carpet Museum has done a lot of work in propagation, study and research of carpet weaving, there have been memorable cultural events, meetings in the activity of the museum.   The national leader Heydar Aliyev visited the museum in connection with the 75th anniversary of  Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic in October 1999 and it is one of the most remarkable events in the museum.

The vice-president of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, the academician Isa Habibbayli delivered a speech and emphasized that Nakhchivan is one of the most important scientific and cultural centers of our ancient statehood. Today, the autonomous republic is experiencing historicity and modernity, national traditions, national-moral values are preserved and developed. For all this, the selection of Nakhchivan as the capital of Islamic culture in 2018 is the result of high appreciation to the great achievements in the field of national culture, which have been preserved here for centuries and brought to the highest level in modern times, the development of the Turkish-Islamic culture traditions. Celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Nakhchivan State Carpet Museum, a place where our national carpet weaving samples are kept today, Nakhchivan's historical carpet-weaving art, which has a unique place in the Azerbaijani carpet-weaving school, has rich traditions, the presentation of the book “Nakhchivan carpet-weaving: tradition and modernity” which reflects historical carpet-weaving art of Nakhchivan  are the clear examples of high appreciation to our national values.

The chairman of the Board of “Azərxalça” Open Joint-Stock Company, the professor Vidadi Muradov stated that Nakhchivan, the ancient land of Azerbaijan, along with its architectural, art schools, fundamental educational institutions is famous for traditions of carpet weaving as well. The carpet weaving art has evolved from a distant past in this beautiful and charming country. The   archaeological investigations also proved that Nakhchivan is one of the oldest textile centers in Azerbaijan. Nakhchivan carpet-weaving art has historically played a significant role in the development of our national culture, preserving its tradition of carpet weaving today. In the book "Nakhchivan carpet-weaving: Tradition and Modernity," a wide-ranging talk on the carpet-weaving traditions of Nakhchivan, the path of development of this art has been explored.

Then Vidadi Muradov presented a carpet weaved in Ashaghi Aralig village of Sharur region in 1910 to the museum on the occasion of the 20^th anniversary of the Nakhchivan State Carpet Museum.

The assistant professor of Nakhchivan State University Gulnara Ganbarova and the head of the Nakhchivan State Carpet Museum Zamina Gulmammadova delivered speeches.

It was noted that the book "Nakhchivan carpet-weaving: Tradition and Modernity" published jointly authored by  the vice-president of ANAS, the academician Isa Habibbayli and the chairman of  the Board of “Azərxalça” Open Joint-Stock Company professor Vidadi Muradov is one of the valuable publications to learn Nakhchivan carpet-weaving school. The information in the book in English, Russian and Arabic, along with the Azerbaijani language, serves to bring Nakhchivan carpet-weaving school to a wider audience. The book describes Nakhchivan's path from the early civilization to modern times, the history of political and socio-economic development, Nakhchivan carpet-weaving school, the development of Nakhchivan carpet weaving and dyeing were investigated on a scientific basis, photos of  254 carpets, short information about them were presented to readers. In addition, the book contains the photocopies of 158 carpets and carpet products, their weaving date, addresses and dimensions, the information on the symbols on Azerbaijani carpets and the scheme of carpet making stations in the autonomous republic have increased its scientific significance. The book “Nakhchivan carpet-weaving: tradition and modernity” is a great contribution not only to the autonomous republic, but also to the history and culture of Azerbaijan.

The speakers expressed gratitude to the Chairman of the Supreme Majlis for the care and attention shown to the preservation and development of the carpet weaving art in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

At the end of the event, participants got acquainted with the exposition of the museum.
