Children’s Music and Artistic Craftsmanship School named after Artoghrul Javid in Nakhchivan city is one of the schools that gained rich experience, achieved great success during the period of its operation. It began to operate in 1990 as children’s music school named after Bulbul. In 2002, on the basis of the Decree of the Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, the school was named after Artoghrul Javid who had services in the development of literary and artistic, music and painting art, to collect and investigate the Azerbaijani folk songs and folklore.

A new building was constructed for this educational institution and put into operation on January 24, 2013. The head of the school, the Honored artist of Nakhchivan Autonomous Abulfat Babayev recalled the remarks of the Chairman of the Supreme Majlis during the meeting with the teachers at the opening ceremony and he said that the tasks and recommendations of the autonomous republic leader have became the working principle of the pedagogical collective: “Azerbaijan’s national music is a rich treasure. To protect this treasure for coming generations is one of the main tasks. At present, the students studying at the children’s music schools of Nakhchivan are the future supporters to preserve and develop our national music. Therefore, students should be taught high education in music field, Azerbaijan folk music should be taught at a highest level, special attention should be paid to reveal and develop their talent”.

This two-storey building with 340 seats has the necessary facilities for comprehensive education of music and crafts lessons. The classrooms, the library and the concert hall equipped with modern equipments are in the usage of the teachers and students. Establishing a photo stand devoted to Artoghrul Javid is an expression of the importance to our cultural heritage.

My interlocutor also said that at the school there are departments of folk instruments, piano, string instruments, painting and theoretical subjects. Tar, kamancha, drum, piano, violin, garmon, clarnet, flute, drawing, canon and singer    specialities are taught in the departments.

The school library contains nearly 700 training appliances. The teachers and students use the books containing the works of music theorists, outstanding Azerbaijan and world composers. At drawing department the students with special talent and ability are taught. Teaching lessons by professional teachers allowed the students to succeed in the competitions held.

We learned that meetings with prominent artists are organized at school very often. This is one of the factors affecting to increase their outlook, to improve the quality of the education. The meetings with the People’s artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Honored art worker Tofig Bakikhanov made a good impression on the teachers and students. The works of the outstanding composer were performed by the teachers and students at these meetings. The meetings with People’s artists of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ramiz Guliyev, late Ramiz Zohrabov and Honored artists Zakir Mirzayev, Nuriyya Huseynova have been memorable for them.

336 students are taught by 70 teachers at the school. The teachers show great care to reveal and direct their talent and ability. The successful performances of the students at different festivals, the reporting and traditional celebration concerts of the school prove the efforts of the teachers. This educational institution became the winner of the competition “The school of the year” held among the music schools in 2009. Successful results in entrance examinations for high and secondary vocational training are also indicative of the high level of education at the school. Thus, 13 graduates who graduated from the school in the past academic year have become students with high results in exams.

The teachers of the school, the Honored artist of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Mammadali Babayev and Honored teacher Narmina Gadimova said that the main goal of our collective is to improve the quality of education and to prepare talented youth. For this, we use modern techniques and we feel responsible for our work. The conditions created by our state in the achievement of success are great, and we reap the fruit of our labor.

The teachers’ labor is assessed according to the level of students they prepare. Talented student is pride of his teachers. From this point of view it is necessary to note the achievements of the students, as a result of the hard work of teachers. Ulvi Ahmadov, Sevinj Babayeva, Sevindik Rzayev, Elvin Novruzov, Mehman Taghiyev and others have successfully performed at country and republican level concerts and competitions. 

The pedagogical collective of Children’s Music and Artistic Craftsmanship School named after Artoghrul Javid does not limit their achievements and works hard to make greater success. This also means that in the upcoming years the school's successes will be even greater.
