An event dedicated to the "International poetry day" was held at Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Library named after Mammad Said Ordubadi.

Rashad Khudiyev, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, said that in 1999 at UNESCO's 30th meeting the March 21 was announced as the "International Poetry Day" and it had been celebrated since 2007 in Azerbaijan.

Rashad Khudiyev noted that poems and prose works written in recent years show that the modern development and ancient history of Nakhchivan, great construction work, the beauty of our ancient land were praised by our poets and writers.

Chairman of the Writers' Union of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, honored culture worker of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Asim Aliyev made a speech on "Our literature yesterday and today" and noted that the history of Azerbaijani poetry dated back to ancient times. In the twentieth century, our literature was enriched with poetry samples of our outstanding writers and poets Huseyn Javid, Mirza Alakbar Sabir, Samad Vurghun, Aliagha Vahid, Mammad Araz and others.

The head of literary studies department of the Institute of Art, Language and Literature of ANAS Nakhchivan Department, PhD in philology Ramiz Gasimov delivered a speech on "National development in poetry" and said that during the years of independence, interest in our poetry had increased in themes reflecting the heroic history of our people.

The poet Ibrahim Yusifoghlu, director of the Sharur literary union, said in his speech on "Sharur literary union", many literary and scholarly scientists of this union operating for over 50 years had been publicly known, and books published by them had always been met with interest by readers.

Actors from Nakhchivan State Musical Drama Theater named after Jalil Mammadguluzadeh performed examples of Azerbaijani and world literature.

At the end, an exhibition of new books was held.
