The next stage of the 9th educative tour-campaign “Let’s discover our country” which will last from 26 March to 29, started on March. The first stage lasted from March 15 to 18.
In total, 3393 people from 84 cities and regions, including IDPs, will participate in the 9th tour-campaign in six directions, including Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Thus, the number of schoolchildren participating in the tour of "Let’s discover our country" will be more than 20 thousand.
It should be noted that, traditionally, for the past five years, educative tour-campaigns are organized in different regions of our homeland under the slogan "Let’s discover our country" for pupils of IX-XI grades of secondary schools in Azerbaijan. According to the recommendation of the head of state Ilham Aliyev, the tour-action, organized by the Presidential Administration, has become a good tradition.
The main purpose of the project is to familiarize students with the achievements of independent Azerbaijan, created by the national leader Heydar Aliyev, modern life, historical, cultural heritage, traditions, specific features of various regions of our country, with the determination and will of President Ilham Aliyev, to create a visual imagination of young people about the dynamic socio-economic development of our republic, the renewed image of our towns and districts.
Over the past two years, 8 tours have been organized on 7 directions twice a year. 16 thousand 860 people participated in these tour-campaigns, which cover all regions of our country.
The capital city Baku should be especially emphasized on the route. Today, Baku has become one of the world's megapolises with its evolution, magnificent beauty. Baku is a symbol of the harmony of modernity with ancient times. The Maiden Tower, a monument of the centuries is an ancient symbol of Baku, magnificent Flame towers of Baku, a magnificent State Flag Square and Heydar Aliyev Center, one of the rare pearls of world architecture is the symbol of the modernity of the Azerbaijani capital. In recent years, Baku has become a venue for very prestigious international events. Intercultural dialogue, international humanitarian forums, sports competitions, music festivals have widely recognized Baku. The name of Baku is reflected in our contemporary history as host of the International Humanitarian Forums, the Eurovision Song Contest 2012, the VII Global Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations, the First Baku European Games, the Formula 1 European Grand Prix, the World Chess Olympiad and the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games. The schoolchildren from Nakhchivan who will travel to Baku within the framework of the tour will get detailed information on these important events, will be acquainted with the path of development of the capital of Azerbaijan and will make excursions to historical and contemporary places.
Ancient Nakhchivan, which has five millennium urban culture traditions, has made valuable contributions to Azerbaijan's, entirely, Caucasus’ and the world's civilization treasury. Nakhchivan, once reminiscent of its magnificent past with its historical monuments, has turned into a land of impressive development. Now Nakhchivan can be considered as a clear indicator of the dynamics of development of Azerbaijan in the true sense of the word. The scale of development in Nakhchivan is not measured in years, months but days. It is no coincidence that the city of Nakhchivan was declared the Islamic culture capital for 2018, as well as the Youth Capital of our republic. All these achievements in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic have been achieved in the blockade conditions made by Armenia's military aggression against Azerbaijan. The foundation of development in this beautiful land was laid during the time when the great leader Heydar Aliyev was chairman of the Supreme Majlis of Nakhchivan and has become even more enriched thanks to President Ilham Aliyev's care and attention. The tour-action participants will get acquainted with the modern Nakhchivan, creating a rhythmic atmosphere in the blockade, will get detailed information national leader Heydar Aliyev’s political activity covering Nakhchivan period. Additionally, the schoolchildren will get acquainted with the tombs of Momuna Khatun, Noah Prophet, Garabaghlar, “Ashabi-Kahf” sanctuary and other ancient monuments preserved and reconstructed in Nakhchivan, the house-museums of M.T.Sidgi, M.S.Ordubadi and Y.Mammadaliyev.
The students who will travel in Ganja-Goygol-Shamkir direction will get acquainted with wide scale construction work, the social projects carried out in the direction of protection and reconstruction of material-cultural heritage in the region, as well as the German settlements built 200 hundred years ago. The 200th anniversary of the German settlement in the South Caucasus region, taking into account the great importance of this event in the promotion of Azerbaijan as a century-long tolerance land with multicultural traditions, President Ilham Aliyev signed an Order to celebrate this remarkable date.
First, the students will get acquainted with the social-economical and cultural life of the city of Ganja, the second biggest city of Azerbaijan. The modern industrial facilities, tourism and social objects, cultural institutions, beautiful avenues, parks and alleys are reflected on the new map of Ganja. The tour-campaign participants will get acquainted with these innovations, will visit the historical places of the city – Javadkhan tomb, Juma mosque, Shah Abbas mosque, Chokak hamam (bath), Khan’s garden, Old Fortress walls, “Imamzadeh” complex, Jomard Gassab tomb, Nizami Ganjavi tomb and new building of Ganja State Philharmonic, will see “Shamkir city of medieval ages”, “Monuments” park, German church in Shamkir region, German church, the house-museum of the last German Viktor Klein in Goygol region, will visit Hajikand settlement and Goygol National Park.
There is a very large share of the non-oil sector, especially in the agrarian sector, in the economy of Azerbaijan. Special attention is now paid to the development of the non-oil industry in the country. Contours of this development are reflected in the Strategic Roadmap. In this regard, Lankaran, Masalli and Astara regions occupy one of the most important places in the country's economy. This region is known for its citrus gardens, tea and paddy plantations, beautiful sites, historic sites, and unique traditions. At the Republican meeting on development of tea, paddy and citrus production in Lankaran on September 3, 2017, President Ilham Aliyev's instructions and recommendations, the decrees related to the revival of these fields is of great importance in diversifying the country's economy. It is planned to establish a logistics center for the preservation of existing potential for the revitalization of these areas, as well as establishment of farms of paddy growing, citrus fruit growing, tea growing and cattle-breeding, paddy and tea processing facilities, for the storage of citrus fruits.
The students who will travel in Lankaran-Masalli-Astara direction, at the same time, will get acquainted with historical places, new buildings. Their visit to “Gosha gala” (double fortress) gates, the house-museum of Hazi Aslanov, Round fortress, Lighthouse building, Hirkan National Park, Khanbulan lake, tea plantations, citrus fruit gardens in Lankaran, city boulevard, “Yanar dagh” and “Astarachay” tea plant in Astara, the History-Ethnography Museum, Children’s Art School, the Museum of State Symbols, “ASAN hayat” (easy life) complex, Vilashchay water reservoir in Masalli will be very memorable for the schoolchildren.
One of our regions, which plays an important role in the country's economy, is the Gabala-Shaki-Zagatala zone. These regions are also known for their tourism industry, multiculturalism traditions and historical sites, like other regions. At the same time, cocoon, tobacco and hazelnut growing have also been developed in this region. The Republican meeting on the development of cocoon, tobacco and hazelnut production in Gakh on August 4, 2017, chaired by President Ilham Aliyev, has become an important event in the economic life of our country.
Specifically, it is necessary to emphasize that the necessary measures in the republic aimed at development of cocoon and creation of modern silk worming infrastructure have been substantially reflected in the activity of Shaki-Ipak OJSC, one of the largest industrial enterprises in the north-western region of our country. New mulberry trees are planted in Shaki, traditions of cocoon, silkworm breeding are restored, and large-scale reconstruction works are carried out at Shaki-Ipak combine. In short, in Shaki, which is famous for ancient silk art, special attention is paid to the development of this sphere. Shaki also distinguishes for its own cuisine, traditions and historical sites.
Azerbaijan is known as sports country in the world. Azerbaijani sportsmen winning high places in prestigious international tournaments, sports competitions, world and European championships as well as the Olympics have confirmed this with their achievements. The prestigious sports events that our country successfully hosted include the First European Games held in 2015 in Baku and Mingachevir, the IV Islamic Solidarity Games held in Baku in 2017, as well as Formula-1 races. All this has been achieved thanks to state care for sports in Azerbaijan. The policy pursued in this direction is based on popularization of sports in Azerbaijan, promotion among teenagers and young people. At the same time, sport that is new to our country is spreading among the youth. The "Tufandag" Skiing Complex in Gabala, the golf playground in Guba, the ski school in the Shahdag tourist center are of great importance both for the development of tourism and the widespread introduction of new sports.
Students traveling in this direction will be able to visit the “Tufandag” Skiing Complex in Gabala, which has a modern tourism infrastructure, the Chukhur Gabala Historical and Cultural Reserve, Nij village where Udi people live. Shaki cuisine, State Historical-Architectural Reservation, Shaki Khan Palace, Yukhari (upper) Caravansary, Asahgi (lower) Caravansary, Juma mosque and the ancient Albanian tomb in Kish village, “Markhal” treatment recreation complex will make good impressions on the participants of the tour-campaign.
Schoolchildren will also go to Zagatala, which is famous for its floriculture, tobacco production and hazelnut gardens. The development of these traditional and profitable agrarian fields is one of the main objectives of the region. Students will get acquainted with modern hazelnut processing facilities, tobacco farms, will visit the History-Culture Reserve and Dada Gorgud Square. Information about ancient and modern Zagatala will be of great interest to the tour participants.
A great deal of work has been done in the direction of development of agrarian sector, processing enterprises, particularly tourism industry in Guba-Gusar-Khachmaz region. This region is also known for its historical places. Participants will receive information about all these, and they will be witnesses of Armenian atrocities at the Guba Genocide Memorial Complex. This charming corner of Azerbaijan is also known for its multicultural traditions. In the region, representatives of different nations live in peace for centuries, enriching their culture and culture of the Azerbaijani people. The pupils won't forget the excursions to the densely populated settlements of Jews, the Guba carpet-making workshop, the Juma Mosque, the Taghli Bridge, the waterfall on the road to Khinalig and the golf course. Information about the "ASAN hayat" (easy life) complex, which started operating in Guba, will also be of interest to the tour participants.
The northern part of Azerbaijan, along with its economy, is also an attractive destination for tourism development. Significant measures have been taken in recent years to create tourism infrastructure in this region. The number of tourists visiting the Shahdagh Tourist Center in Gusar region is increasing year by year. This center can be considered as a tourist brand of Azerbaijan. Shahdagh is distinguished for its beauty in all seasons of nature. Schoolchildren along with this center will also visit the sightseeing places of Gusar and get acquainted with the "Sheikh Juneyd" tomb in Hazra village. The next stop in this direction will be the Khachmaz region. Excursions to the "Museum of Personalities", the Chanlibel park, carpet museum in Khachmaz, and the socio-economic development of the region will be of great interest to schoolchildren.
The students will also be informed about the Armenian-Azerbaijani Nagorno-Garabagh conflict, including the Armenian armed forces,which ignores the ceasefire, which has been in force since May 12, 1994, firing on our positions, mowing down the civilians and settlements. Thus, the enemy once again resorted to provocation and attacked our positions on April 2, 2016, killing several civilians, and the Azerbaijani Army freed a number of points with counter-attack to prevent this attack. With the liberation of Lalatapa, Jojug Marjanli village of Jabrayil region revived. As a result of the great attention and care of President Ilham Aliyev, the village was rebuilt and internally displaced persons returned to their homes. The April war proved once more that the Azerbaijani soldier and our people is not only ready for the war, but also can finish it successfully. This information will inspire the patriotic spirit of schoolchildren.
During the excursion, pupils will be informed about a number of global projects that have been initiated by Azerbaijan. It is worth noting that signing of the "Contract of the Century" on 20 September 1994 under the leadership of great leader Heydar Aliyev is considered as the beginning of the new oil strategy of Azerbaijan, and the agreement to extend the joint development of Azeri, Chirag and Gunashli fields by 2050 signed in Baku in the Heydar Aliyev Center with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev, who successfully continues this strategy, on September 14, 2017 is called the "Contract of the New Century". The presence of a number of prominent leaders of the world's largest oil companies in the signing ceremony proves it. Thus, according to the new contract, oil revenues from ACG till 2050 will accelerate the socio-economic development of our country. The new contract also reflects the confidence of foreign partner companies in the Azerbaijani economy.
In recent years, Azerbaijan invests in transport infrastructure. The railway, which launched on October 30, 2017 and connects the continents, will run and carry load and passengers from London to Beijing via the Baku-Tbilisi-Gars railway, which is called the Iron Silk Road. This project has not only economic, but also geostrategic importance. Students will be informed about all these projects.
Within the framework of the campaign, schoolchildren will have a chance to spend their leisure time at "What? Where? When?" intellectual games, the winners will be awarded with memorable gifts, theater performances and concert programs will be organized for them.
