The Salt Museum will play an important role in promoting Nakhchivan

The Nakhchivan community witnessed an important cultural event last month. The Salt Museum was put into operation in Nakhchivan with the participation of the Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. This museum created at the “Duzdagh” hotel according to the Decree of the Chairman of the Supreme Majlis “On establishment of the Nakhchivan Salt Museum” dated September 12, 2017 attract attention by its many important aspects.

Appreciating the establishment of Nakhchivan Salt Museum as an important event on April 25, the Chairman of the Supreme Majlis congratulated the participants and future visitors on this occasion and said: “The history of Nakhchivan is connected with the history of extraction of Nakhchivan salt. In order to study Nakhchivan’s history, firstly, we need to learn the history of Nakhchivan salt. Nakhchivan salt, Duzdagh has been great importance in the formation of Nakhchivan as a city. 5-7 thousand years ago, the precious metals and money were not used in circulation. Taking into account that salt was the only means of circulation at that time, Nakhchivan was built in those areas where the salt was extracted. This allows the conclusion that the formation of the city of Nakhchivan began with the first extract of salt 5-7 thousand years ago in Nakhchivan. Historians from different countries also informed about this.”

Yes, the establishment of this unique museum reflecting the formation of the city of Nakhchivan and its city traditions is very important for our autonomous republic as well as for our country. Because the formation of urban culture is not typical for all ancient settlements in our country. There should be reasons for creating a culture of mass in the same area and the necessity of public living conditions on the basis of this culture. Urbanization imposes demands on coexistence in a limited area which is derived from the development of public consciousness. From this point of view, salt production in Nakhchivan which requires the formation of urban culture is also of universal importance. Because it is about a field of 5000-7000 years of activities. One of the reasons of this museum’s uniqueness is that, unlike the other unusual museums operating all over the world, this cultural institution is based absolutely on historical reality. As we know, there are a lot of museums in many countries and they are an aggregate of unusual interests in terms of tourist attraction. The fact makes this new museum unusual is that a simple blessing bestowed on us by nature is the carrier of an ancient culture for millennia.

We would like to highlight one point. Nakhchivan has many ancient places. However, in terms of mass interest, three of them are more remarkable: Ashabi-Kahf Cave, Duzdagh, and Tomb of Prophet Noah. These are in the focus of foreign tourists because they exceed regional boundaries and are of global importance. Citizens of other countries are also informed about all these three places. The fact that tourists coming to our autonomous republic visit these places much is also the result of the overwhelming interest in the rich history of our ancient land. However, the point is that the erection of the monument of Prophet Noah at the Salt Museum makes viewers think again about the aspects that connect Nakhchivan and Noah. This shows that visual imagery in tourism is more effective than verbal and written information. All this plays an important role in promoting Nakhchivan as an ancient land of Noah. In general, the Nakhchivan Salt Museum is a cultural institution that demonstrates the world's first processing experience of salt by mining method, as well as the formation of the initial production culture of human beings.
