Nakhchivan was declared the capital of Islamic culture for 2018 at the sixth conference of culture ministers of member countries of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Baku in October 2009.
On the basis of the Decree of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated June 2, 2016, the Organizing Committee was established in connection with announcement of the city of Nakhchivan as the Capital of Islamic Culture in 2018. At the meeting of the Organizing Committee held in Nakhchivan city on November 25, 2016, the Events Plan was approved and its implementation started. According to the Events Plan the official web page “Nakhchivan Capital of Islamic Culture-2018” was established by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and the Ministry of Communications and New Technologies of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
“Nakhchivan Capital of Islamic Culture – 2018” prepared in Azerbaijani and English languages (www.imp.nakhchivan.az) was put into operation on January 13, 2018.
The web page consists of 8 main and 27 sub-sections. “Home page” contains “Official documents” and “Events” sub-sections. The Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan “On the establishment of Organizing Committee in connection to grant the status of Capital of Islamic Culture to Nakhchivan city for 2018” and the Decree of the Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on the preparation of the logo “Nakhchivan Capital of Islamic Culture-2018” were installed in the section “Official documents”. “Events” section provides the information on the solution of issues envisaged in the Events Plan.
“About Nakhchivan” main section of the web page consists of “Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic”, “Nature”, “City and regions” sub-sections. These sections contain the information about the history, fauna and flora, administrative-territorial division, transport infrastructure, administrative buildings, concert, educational institutions and other areas.
The “Culture” section of the web page consists of 12 sub-sections including “Mosques”, Imamzadeh”, “Historical and architectural monuments”, “Handicraft”, “Architecture”, “National dances”, “National musical instruments”, “National clothes”, “National kitchen”, “Museums”, “Theatres” and “Libraries”. These sections contain information on culture and art, as well as links to the electronic books "Nakhchivan national clothes" and "Nakhchivan cuisine". The site provides detailed information on museums, theaters and libraries operating in the autonomous republic.
“Tourism” section provides detailed information about the tourism potential of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, religious and treatment tourism facilities, including the information about accommodation objects, addresses and contacts.
“Photo gallery” and “Videos” sections contain photo and video materials about the historical and cultural monuments, tourism potential, parks, hotels and modern infrastructure of the autonomous republic.
“Useful information” section provides information about banks and foreign agencies operating in the autonomous republic, addresses and contacts. There are also links to other electronic resources, which are sources of useful information.
Review book has been created in “Guest review” section, this created condition allows guests of the autonomous republic and visitors of the site to write their reviews electronically.
The events holding in connection with the fact that Nakhchivan is the Capital of Islamic Culture for 2018, implemented work and innovations will be reflected on the official website of "Nakhchivan Capital of Islamic Culture-2018" (www.imp.nakhchivan.az).
