The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway familiarized himself with educational, cultural and production facilities of the autonomous republic

Norwegian Ambassador to Azerbaijan Bard Ivar Svendsen visited Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on October 16-17. During the visit, the guest got acquainted with the historical monuments of the autonomous republic, educational, cultural and production facilities.

The diplomat laid flowers at the monument to the founder and architect of the independent state of Azerbaijan, a prominent statesman Heydar Aliyev in the main square of Nakhchivan and commemorated the memory of the great leader.

Bard Ivar Svendsen visited the Museum of  Heydar Aliyev and viewed the exhibits reflecting the life of Heydar Aliyev and the multifaceted statehood activity. Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to the Republic of Azerbaijan visited Nakhchivan State University.

After the acquaintance with the University, Ambassador Bard Ivar Svendsen met with the students of International Relations and Foreign Languages and read a lecture on Azerbaijan-Norway relations.

The ambassador noted that the basis of cooperation between the two countries was laid by the national leader of the Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev, spoke about the work done in the field of bilateral relations in the past and informed about the research of Norwegian scientist Tur Heyerdal about Gobustan rock paintings and he shared the scientist’s views on the fact that Azerbaijan is the center of human civilization. The questions of the students were answered and future cooperation between the universities was discussed.

The ambassador also visited the Badamli plant of the “Gemigaya Mineral Waters” Limited Liability Company. It was noted that the production facility covering 2.1 hectares in the city of Nakhchivan with a total area of 9,590 square meters and production area of 3,600 square meters was put into operation in 2009 with the participation of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.

During the acquaintance with the “Ashabi-Kahf Sanctuary” Religious and Cultural Monument Complex, the Ambassador of Norway to Azerbaijan was informed about the mysterious history of Ashabi-Kahf.

The guest who visited Nakhchivan Solar Power Station was informed that the station, which was put into operation on December 1, 2015 with the participation of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev, is successfully operating. New Solar Power Plant with a capacity of 2 megawatts has been put into operation in the autonomous republic on September 8 this year. With the launch of the new power plant, the volume of electricity produced during the year at Nakhchivan Solar Power Station has been increased to 33 million kilowatt-hours.

Bard Ivar Svendsen got acquainted with also Nakhchivan State Carpet Museum, “Khan Palace” State Historical and Architectural, Momina Khatun and Museum in the Open Sky Complex, Heydar Aliyev Palace, “Nakhchivangala” Historical-Architectural Museum Complex, Nakhchivan Business Center, Nakhchivan Automobile Plant and Duzdagh Physiotherapy Center.

On October 17, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Azerbaijan Bard Ivar Svensen completed his visit to Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

The guest shared his impressions with the reporter of the newspaper “Sharg gapisi” (Gate of the east). He first talked about the purpose of his visit and said: “The purpose of my visit to Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic was to get acquainted with the economic potential of the ancient land. During my meetings held here, I have also learned more about this”.

Noting that the relations between Norway and Azerbaijan are characterized by cooperation in the oil and gas sector, the ambassador noted that relations in the field of culture have expanded over the past years. He noted that Nakhchivan State University, a renowned higher education institution in the autonomous republic, and the universities in Norway have opportunities for cooperation.

The diplomat said: “During my visit, I was in a number of historical places and cultural institutions in the autonomous republic. Among them, the most memorable was the “Ashabi-Kahf Sanctuary Religious and Cultural Monument Complex where a man finds moral comfort”.
