An interactive lesson was organized between the autonomous republic’s secondary schools and the State Flag Museum

On November 8, an interactive lesson was organized between the autonomous republic’s secondary schools and the State Flag Museum.

In the open lesson, the museum’s guide Ayshan Mehdiyeva noted that state symbols are symbols of recognition, sovereignty, identity of any state. These symbols reflect centuries-old history, national values and traditions of each state, people. The flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan occupies a special place in the state symbols reflecting the independence and glorious past of the contemporary Azerbaijani state with ancient statehood history and traditions.

It was noted that the special attitude towards the flag, the main state symbols in our national mindset, was manifested in history and became the national symbol of our people. Acceptance of our tricolor as one of the state symbols coincides with the period of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic founded on May 28, 1918. On the same day, the National Council of Azerbaijan declared independence in Tbilisi with the Declaration of Independence. The red flag with white crescent and eight-pointed star was adopted as a national flag of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic on the decision of the Azerbaijan Temporary Government led by Fatali Khan Khoyski on June 24, 1918.

On November 9, 1918, at the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers in Baku, Fatali Khan Khoyski made a report on the national flag. After the discussions, the flag consisting of green, red and blue colors, white crescent and eight-pointed stars was adopted as the State flag. The three-colored flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan was raised for the second time by the initiative of national leader Heydar Aliyev at the session of Supreme Majlis of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on November 17, 1990.

It was noted that the Order “On establishment of the State Flag Square and Museum in the city of Nakhchivan”, signed by the head of autonomous republic on August 22, 2014, is of great importance. Solemn opening ceremony of the State Flag Square and Museum was held on November 17, 2014.

It was stressed that our people always treated our flag as sacred, always glorified and, if necessary, our brave men had passed their lives for the flag. The flag of Azerbaijan is a symbol of our statehood, our independence. That is why every citizen, especially the younger generation, should understand and appreciate it. As our flag is a source of pride, it is important to make young people love the Azerbaijani flag. Flag love also expresses love for the Motherland. The flag is the symbol of freedom for every nation, its political existence and independence.

The open lesson was watched by the students of 207 schools of the autonomous republic.
