On November 17, 2009, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr. Ilham Aliyev signed an Order to celebrate November 9 as the Day of the National Flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan every year. Thus, every year November 9 is celebrated by our people solemnly.

Various events are held everywhere in our country on this remarkable day.

An event titled “The 9^th of November is the Day of the National Flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan” was organized by the Scientific Methodological Center on Culture and Julfa Region Culture and Tourism Department.

The head of the Culture and Tourism Department of Julfa Region Parvin Hasanov noted that the flag, one of the most sacred symbols, is the main indication of the existence of the nation, the ability to build and gain an independent state. Thus, the flag, which is the symbol of self-authentication, is regarded as a proud and trusting point all over the world. Flag is also the most realistic expression of the identity of the state and people, the movement of freedom, mentality and thinking. From this point of view, our national flag, which praises the freedom, sovereignty of our people, its struggle for independence is our national pride.

Director of the Scientific Methodological Center on Culture Sayyar Mammadov made a speech on “Our flag is the source our pride”. He noted that the three-colored flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan was raised for the second time by the initiative of national leader Heydar Aliyev at the session of the Supreme Soviet of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic on November 17, 1990. The session was of great importance discussion of many issues related to the process of restoring the Azerbaijani statehood and making historic decisions on the path to independence of our country. By the initiative of national leader Heydar Aliyev historical decisions were made at the session such as “On changing the name of Nakhchivan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic”, “On the Supreme state power authority of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic” and “On state symbols of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic”.

Methodist of the Bananaiyar village culture house Sevinj Guliyeva and the village resident Ramiz Guliyev delivered speeches on the topic.
