“The unlucky young man” was performed in Julfa region

On February 16, the performance prepared on the basis of Abdurrahim bey Hagverdiyev’s “The unlucky young man” play by Babek Region Folk Theatre was presented to the public at Julfa Region Culture House.

“The unlucky young man” tragedy which depicts the life of the prominent writer partly, is of interest to create a positive hero, to show his struggle in life, and thus to express his desires and wishes.

Farhad, the main hero in the performance (actor Rasim Gasimov) is a vigilant intellectual of his time though he was grown up in property. He finished his education in the city and returned his village with the feelings innovation, enlightenment, nationalism towards the stoned landowner attitude.  But he is very poor to carry out these ideas. Farhad’s fate ended unlucky. It should be noted that the first suicide in Azerbaijan dramaturgy happens in “The unlucky young man” play. Farhad hurts himself and dies in the prison hospital. Although the hero of the performance dies, his ideas live. The dark sides of his environment have a role in his death.

One of the main characters of the performance Haji Samad agha (The Honored artist of the Republic of Azerbaijan Vidadi Rajabli) is the representative of reactionary landowner. He is a very cruel, ignorant man far away from education, culture. This landlord, who owns a great fortune, married Farhad's mother, thus his brother's wife. This ignorant, who is not satisfied with his wealth, has done so to acquire the money of his deceased brother. Experienced actor Vidadi Rajabli is able to create the image of Haji Samad agha with characteristic lines.

Though the main characters of “The unlucky young man” tragedy are Farhad and Haji Samad agha, the other characters in the performance are also interesting.  Haji Samad agha’s servant Mirza Goshunali (actor Ismayil Gurbanov) attracts attention as an interesting servant in our dramaturgy. Mirza Goshunali  Mirza is a hypocrite, dissembler, scoundrel man. This image of Ismayil Gurbanov, one of the talented actors of the folk theatre, was met with interest by the audience.  Farhad’s hatred towards Mirza Goshunali is endless. Mirza Goshunali, an abusive man with his actions, acknowledges it in his conversation with Haji Samad agha: “Haji Agha, you know, I'm your trick companion ... I have lost my shame, dignity as I tell a lot of lies…”

Chingis (actor Kanan Feyzullayev), the son of Haji Samad agha in the play, is a member of the same family as Farhad, but they have also very different characters. Chingiz is a real son of sponger landowner.

Farhad’a mother Mehri khanim (actress Stella Babayeva) married his brother-in-law Haji Samad agha after her husband’s death. Farhad does not regard his unfaithful mother as a parent and does not love her. This role of Stella Babayeva, who has played interesting roles on the stage of the Folk Theater, is also alive and natural.

Other roles in the performance are not out of the scope of events.  Farhad’s schoolmate Musa (actor Alakbar Ismayilov), Karbalayi Bandali (actor Elsavar Mammadov) also adds dynamics to the existing environment, entering the scene of the event, which leads to a fascinating performance. A number of actors also reveal the public problems of the era by creating peasant characters on the mass scenes.

The simple and clear language of the play “The unlucky young man” plays very important role to create a successful performance. The prominent playwright skillfully utilized the subtleties of our artistic language. The language of the play, which is rich in proverbs is vividly inspired by the use of expressions and phrases that are common to the public.

The performance is directed by Usif Aliyev and music designer is Jabir Mammadov.

The tragedy “The unlucky young man” which is rich in progressive ideas in our dramaturgy history, has been met with interest by the public.
