On February 20, Nakhchivan Music College hosted a master class for the students studying choreography.
Sona Aliyeva, The Honored Artist of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, dancer of the Nakhchivan State Philharmonic Song and Dance Ensemble, said in master-class that national Azerbaijani choreography is based on ancient sources. Modern choreography has been formed from ancient times. Dances were always performed at holidays and wedding ceremonies.
It was noted that dancing is the kind of art based on the rhythmic motive expression and the plasticity of the human body. Dances emerged from different movements and gestures related to the labor process and emotional impressions of people. Each nation has its own dance traditions. Stage dances are based on folk dances. Harmonic movements and poses, plasticity and mimicry, dynamics of movements, and composition are the main expression means of dance. Suits and props have an important role in the enrichment of dances.
Sona Aliyeva, who conduct the master class, said that Azerbaijani folk dances with ancient history are varied in genre. Dances are performed by women and men singly, in pairs, by mass. For women dances, elegant gestures and temperateness are typical. Flexible movements of legs, spreading their arms wide and optimism are typical for men dance. The style of folk dance was influenced by the characteristics of national clothing.
After giving detailed information about our national dances, the choreographer also spoke about the ways to create dances, exercises for dance, the selection of them, and the choice of costume and music.
