On March 14, the Nakhchivan City Children's Music and Art School hosted a roundtable on "Islamic religious and national-moral values: customs-traditions" organized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
Kanan Taghizadeh, chief advisor to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, said in his opening speech that Nakhchivan city was proclaimed as the Capital of Islamic Culture for 2018 at the VI Conference of Culture Ministers of Islamic countries, held in Baku, on October 14, 2009. The aim of the event is to introduce and educate young people with Islamic culture and values.
It was noted that the Islamic religion spread in Azerbaijan in the VII century and was the basis of the national and moral values of the Azerbaijani people. Our centuries-old history of Islam is rich and interesting. Today we are proud to say that Azerbaijan's great people of Islamic culture and religion, Nizami, Bahmanyar, Ajami Nakhchivani, Safiaddin Urmavi, Fuzuli, Nasimi, Tusi, Gatran Tabrizi and many other great personalities made a great contribution to world civilization, enriched Islamic culture.
There are many great religions around the world. Every religion has its own place. We Azerbaijanis are proud of the Islamic religion and have never opposed other religions or we have never had animosity towards them, we have forced no other people to believe in our religion. In general, tolerance to other religions and living in a mutual understanding with other religions are characteristics of Islamic values. It has been reflected both in Azerbaijan and in the Caucasus throughout the history. Along with Islamic religion, Christian religion and other religions and sects have been living for centuries and still live in Azerbaijan. That is also how it goes in the Caucasus. People should respect all other cultures, religions, moral values, regardless of their religion or culture, and must be tolerant of those religions.
Then the chairman of the Composers' Union of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Honored Art Worker of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Yashar Khalilov, the director of Nakhchivan State History Museum, Honored Culture Worker of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Nizami Rahimov, the director of the Bahruz Kangarli Museum Sabina Alinjali, the director of Nakhchivan State Carpet Museum Zamina Gulmammadova, the director of the Scientific and Methodological Center on Culture Sayyar Mammadov, the director of Nakhchivan Tourism Information Center Gulnara Sadigova, and the director of Nakhchivan State Film Fund Mirakif Seyidov made speeches.
It was said that in the autonomous republic, Islamic values are respected. Respect for these values shows itself in holding religious holidays at a high level. The Sacrifice Feast and the Ramadan holiday holding every year serve as a purification of the people, uniting for the homeland and the people, by promoting justice and mercy, compassion and benevolence inspired by our religion. This unity is a very important factor for our society and our state.
It was noted that the measures taken to preserve religious values in the autonomous republic are welcomed by people. The sanctuaries are being restored, new mosques are built, and the necessary conditions for believers are created. In recent years, newly built mosques, renovated Islamic monuments have been an example of the state's attention and care. Religious radicalism, inclination to various harmful ideas hidden under the cover of religion, contradicts with our national traditions. Therefore, our national-moral values, customs and traditions should be cherished as the apples of our eyes at every moment.
