On April 2, Nakhchivan State Puppet Theater named after M.T. Sidgi hosted an event dedicated to "April 2 - International Children's Book Day".
First the event participants got acquainted with the exhibition of children's books.
Speaking at the event, employee of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Aygun Huseynova noted that April 2 - the day of the birth of Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen, who played an indispensable role in the development of children's literature, is celebrated all over the world as "International Children's Book Day" by the initiative of the UNESCO Children's and Youth Literature Council since 1967. It was noted that the purpose of this event is to show the role of the book in the intellectual development of children, to instill love for the book, and to draw attention to the publication of children's books.
It was noted that the book plays an important role in the intellectual development of children, the formation of speech habits, and giving full play to their imagination. Children's reading habits should be formed at younger ages. Research by pedagogues shows that there are two basic terms for good reading habits. These are reading patience and reading pleasure. These two habits of reading are earned in the family and at school. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to the acquisition of these habits in the family and at school. Cultural factors have a major impact on the child's reading pleasure. Children differ by their enthusiasm for reading book. Those who have inborn talents are reading two or three times more books than normal children to get more information and knowledge.
Studies show that children first love to turn over the pages of the book, just as a toy, and since the age of 2 the child loves small picture books that are made of cloth or thick pasteboard. Children between the ages of 3-4 want more to read tales books to them and thus the interest of children in books and reading begins to form.
Talking about the formation, development and publication of children's literature in the world and Azerbaijan, Aygun Huseynova said that the 19th-20th centuries are characterized by the development of children's literature in our country. At the beginning of the last century Mirza Alakbar Sabir, Abdulla Shaig, Abbas Sahhat, Suleyman Sani Akhundov, Jalil Mammadguluzadeh, Sultanmajid Ganizade and others wrote wonderful works for children.
It was noted that today in our country great attention is paid to the publication of children's books, books for children are published. Publishing children's books has increased in our autonomous republic in recent years. The care of Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of the Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan for libraries and book publishing has raised the number of children's literature publications in the autonomous republic. The book "Children and the Sun" was published and it was welcomed by the public. In addition, several books consisting of children's literature examples have been published. Work in this area is continuing today. The diversity and design of books prepared for children are always main issues for our writers and poets. Books with interesting illustrations, rich in theme diversity attract more children.
It was emphasized that currently, the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Children's Library named after A.Babayev, as well as the children's departments of the region (city) centralized libraries are carrying out various measures to increase the interest of children in books, to form and develop their reading habits. In this regard, the events held within the framework of the "Tale days" project of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic attract particular attention. Numerous children's books have been added to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Children's Library named after Adil Babayev in recent years.
The role of books in society is indispensable. The role of children's books in the mental development of children will never lose its importance.
At the end of the event, a knowledge contest was held among the children and the winners were rewarded with books of world children's literature, which were published in our language in recent years. After the competition, the little readers watched the performance "The Magic Lamp of Aladdin" prepared by the Nakhchivan State Puppet Theater named after M.T. Sidgi.
