As the success of independent Azerbaijan increases in the field of economic and cultural development, we see a positive response from various media channels and leading media organizations around the world. Even though they are located far away from Azerbaijan, many countries provide information about our country, especially the history, culture and sightseeing places of Nakhchivan as the capital of the Islamic Culture.

The articles about Nakhchivan city of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic as the Asian Region’s Capital of Islamic Culture for 2018 and photos reflecting the history, culture and modern development of Nakhchivan were posted on the official website of the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the United Nations Office and other International Organizations in Geneva and the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in South Africa.

It was stated in these internet sources that the history of Nakhchivan city dates back to 5.000 years ago, it is the capital of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic covers 5.500 square kilometers, has a population of more than 452.000 people. As an integral part of Azerbaijan, the autonomy of Nakhchivan reflecting in the international Moscow and Kars Treaties signed in 1924 goes back to 1921.

Nakhchivan has always respected and preserved national, human and religious values and traditions, and showed a great interest to restoration, preservation and promotion of its historical monuments, intangible heritage and culture. The importance of proclamation of Nakhchivan as the capital of the Islamic Culture for 2018 was highlighted.
