On the first of August with the organization of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Library named after M.S. Ordubadi was held an event related to August 1- The Day of Azerbaijani Alphabet and Azerbaijani language.

Opening speech was made by Gulbuta Babayeva, the office head of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, mentioned that according to the Decree on August 9, 2001 of the national leader of Azerbaijan people Heydar Aliyev every year the first of August is celebrated as “ The Day of Azerbaijani Alphabet and Azerbaijani Language” in our country. It was announced that adopting Azerbaijani language as a state language and its development are connected with the name of our national leader Heydar Aliyev. Even during the soviet time, even though the pressure of Moscow the great son of our people Heydar Aliyev showed great bravery that, in 1978 he managed the Azerbaijani language determined as a state language in the constitution of Azerbaijan SSR.

During the second time political power of our genius leader, in the article of 21 of the constitution of Azerbaijan Republic, adopted by the public vote in 1995, the Azerbaijani language is reflected as a state language. It was mentioned that founded by the great leader Heydar Aliyev, the policy of state language is successfully continued by the country President Ilham Aliyev at present. Approved by the decree on April 9, 2013 of the President “The State Program of the use of Azerbaijan language in the conditions of globalization due to the demands of the time and the development of linguistics in the country” is a sample of attention and care to the Azerbaijani language and linguistics, but also made a condition to determine and realize the activities in this field. It was mentioned that in the autonomous republic the language policy is carried out successfully. It is the sample of respect to our mother tongue that in Nakhchivan city was built monument of “Mother Tongue”.

        Then Firudin Rzayev,  the deputy director of scientific affairs of the institute Art, Language and Literature Nakhchivan Branch of ANAS, philosophy doctor on philology, assistant professor, Asim Aliyev, the chairman of the Union Writers of Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Aytakin Gahramanova, the director of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Library named after M.S.Ordubadi, philosophy doctor on history made speeches on different topics. It was noted that today the Azerbaijani alphabet and language is the native alphabet and native language, means of communication of 50 million Azerbaijanis living more than 70 countries of the world. It was also mentioned that today’s youth must preserve the purity of mother tongue which is a heritage of our grandparents.

  At the end there held an exhibition dedicated to this significant day.

  We must note that events and exhibitions related to the Day of Azerbaijani Alphabet and Azerbaijani  Language have been held in the autonomous republic.
