In accordance with the "State Program on Strengthening Social Protection of Old Citizens in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic" approved by the Order of the Chairman of the Supreme Majlis of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic dated May 30, 2006, certain events are held to organize their leisure time effectively and meaningfully.

On January 29, Nakhchivan City Retirement Club hosted backgammon, draughts and chess competitions organized by the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Youth and Sports, Labor and Social Protection Ministries, the Council of Trade Unions and the Council of Elders and the Nakhchivan City Culture and Tourism Department.

Before the competition, the speakers spoke about the state care provided to the old in the autonomous republic and the work done to meet their socio-cultural needs.

Then the competition started. In total, there are 42 participants (22 backgammon, 12 chess, and 8 draughts players) and it was held on the Olympic system. Vasif Ahmedov was the winner of backgammon competition. Ramiz Guliyev was the second, Hikmat Rzayev was the third. Nagi Aliyev, Rashid Sultanov and Alibey Kangarli won the first three places in the chess competition. Kamaladdin Isayev overcame all his opponents on draughts. Nuraddin Safaraliyev was second, and Ilham Sadigov was the third.

The winners were awarded valuable gifts and diplomas of the Culture and Tourism Department of Nakhchivan City.
