An event dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic

On February 12, the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Library named after M.S.Ordubadi hosted the conference "The first democratic state in the East" dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.

Aytekin Gahramanova, the director of the Library, PhD in History, made an opening speech at the event. Gunay Kangarli, scientific secretary of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic Library named after M.S.Ordubadi, Aytan Mammadova, a programmer of the information-resource department of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic named after M.S.Ordubadi, Mehriban Mahmudova, chief librarian of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic named after M.S.Ordubadi, gave speeches on "The first democratic state in the East", "The successful heir of the first democratic republic in the East: the rich and powerful Azerbaijan", and "Azerbaijan Democratic Republic -100".

It was stated in the speeches that the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the first democratic republic in the Muslim East, was established as the logical result of centuries-old social-economic, socio-political and cultural development of our country, national revival of our people. The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was an indication of the level of political consciousness, intellectual and cultural potential of our people, high talent and abilities. On May 28, 1918, the establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was a great event in our history. The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, aiming at the establishment of an independent, free and democratic republic, demonstrated its national self-consciousness and its ability of self determination in the period of 23 months of its existence. The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, the first democratic republic in the East, has set the stage for the glorious history of independent Azerbaijan, which gained its independence in the late 20th century. The establishment of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic is celebrated as "Republic Day" on May 28. The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic made significant strides toward establishing democratic governance principles, and it was the first parliamentary republic in the history of the East, Muslim and Turkish world. The persistent struggle of the Nakhchivan and Zangazur people against the Armenian aggression has been repeatedly praised by the parliament and discussions have been held on these regions. As you become acquainted with all these discussions and adopted laws, it becomes more clear that the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic which was established in the early 20th century, was one of the most democratic states of the that era. The heritage of the traditions established during the period of the first republic of our history is fully ensured by the activity of the modern independent Azerbaijan Republic.

At the end of the event there was an exhibition called "Azerbaijan Democratic Republic-100".
